Cyber Essentials for Charities

Cyber Essentials Certification

In a Government Cyber Security Breach Survey conducted in 2019, 26% of charities identified that they had experienced a cyberattack or data breach. The information that charities hold can be valuable to cybercriminals, so it’s important to keep it as safe as possible.

The information held by charities of all sizes can be a goldmine for cybercriminals, names, addresses, bank and payment details, email addresses, and also the location of vulnerable and at-risk clients. As a result, a data breach or cyberattack could have serious implications for any charity. Not only would there be the financial implication of a fine, but also the potential of a negative effect on reputation and the ability to raise charitable donations.

Cyber Essentials accreditation is a cost-effective Government-backed industry certification that can help to guard against up to 88% of cyberattacks. By becoming Cyber Essentials accredited, a charity can prove that they meet the latest standards against cyberthreats and take cyber security seriously. Additionally, becoming Cyber Essentials accredited can help charities bid for Government contracts that include the handling of personal and sensitive data.

In order to achieve accreditation charities must prove that they are compliant in five key areas:

  • Firewall
  • Security Configuration
  • User Access Controls
  • Malware Protection
  • Patch Management

LP Networks are an accredited Cyber Essentials Certification Body and are able to guide charities of all sizes through each stage of the accreditation process. We work with charitable organisations to ensure that they meet each key area through staff training and providing the services which support their application.
